Have you ever walked off a job on the spot? What drove you to it? Did you regret it afterwards?

OMG!!! This is my question!! Yay!! I just NOW realized it. Tee hee.

Ok, I did walk off a job. I was working in a Japanese restaurant at the time and the owner (who was Japanese) was just awful. He was not respectful to his employees. He was always calling us stupid and just basically mistreating us. I swore to myself that if he bad mouth me one more time I would just leave. I had envision how I would leave too. I could see a large group coming in to the restaurant and I would be leaving. Leaving him all alone to man both his tiny kitchen and a large group of people.

Well, the day came. Apparently there was some confusion with an order and he was not very clear about what he was telling me. He was telling me that the customers had ordered a certain dish (basically, I took the order wrong... is what he was trying to say, but it seemed like he was telling that they added on to their order). Well, I wasn't giving him the "correct response." I was supposed to be apologetic, but how could I? He really did sound like he was adding on to the order, NOT trying to tell me I took it wrong. At any rate, he calls me to the back of the kitchen and begins to bad mouth me and tells me, "do you want me to kill you?" I was like..."what?!?!?" I retorted with, "Do you want me to quit?"
So he says, "go ahead... quit." And I did. I walked out. Just as I was leaving, sure enough a large group was entering the shop. I had a HUGE smile on my face.

I needed the money, no doubt, but that was the day I knew I was NOT going to sustain a poor working environment...ever. So... no regrets.

great question... thats horrible owner! i would have walked out into the restaurant yelling back "go ahead and try to kill me!"

my post has to stay within my friends because i have family who read my journal too haha so i will share my answer with you, pass it on if you like :)

i've walked off 2 jobs...and regret neither.
the first was in 2003 at this childrens retail store DryIce; the district manager of that store was the most uptight obnoxious gay man who told me i was "too feminine to be gay to work at his store" and demoted my management position and took me off the schedule for 2 weeks. the other co workers were either straight valley girl pretty, lesbians that looked like men and one other gay man who looked like a female. needless to say i dropped my keys on the floor and walked out.
a month later of me walking out i get a letter in the mail saying that the company went bankrupt and was closing... i wonder why.

the second was in 2005 at Darcars Ford/Kia (car dealership), i worked in the service center as an advisor. I was constantly being sexually harassed, sales men grabbing my ass or pushing me up on a wall and asking me for drugs like i was a dealer or something, and trying to lock me in the back office when i went to get supplies or do filing for the parts deprtment... even though i can defend my self, asked them to stop physically pushed them to the floor that did not stop them. I went to the management, upper management and HIR multiple times and they did absolutely nothing did not want to hear anything i had to say, i would call on the office line and one woman at HIR told me "dont talk to me about this now, call me from your cell phone to my cell phone because the office lines are monitored." i hung up on her. a week later i was told by my boss no one has respect for me because i dont do my job well enough. i asked him how is a person supposed to do their job well enough if shes being harassed daily, no coworkers or management will listen, its over 120degrees in the shop area because they are so cheap they wont fix the ac during the summer and having sales men follow me home after work??? he had no answer so i walked out. (that summer i worked there mechanics were passing out in the service lane and taken to the hospital)

i tried contacting a lawyer...i didnt have the money to afford that, and try getting the cops in pg county to listen to a female complain about a huge corporate dealership who pays the cops off... yea. that worked real well. ...needless to say dont buy from Darcars.
