What's the best and worst advice you ever received? Did you follow it even if it ran counter to your gut intuition? How did it turn out?

Hmmmm, was thinking if I should make this post private or public. But, to keep in public I need to really think hard, so I thought of this:

The worst advice: don't become a school teacher.
The Rationale: School teachers need to have nice handwriting because you are a model for the students and your handwriting it terrible. You can't be a teacher with messy handwriting.

Me: hahahaha, wanna bet...bitch! Yeah, some Japanese lady told me that. I was quite devastated to be told that. It seemed that Japanese people who have entered my life and tried to deter me from becoming a teacher... and yet I am. I became a teacher. And I am doing well. I laugh at their ridiculous advice now. Glad I didn't listen to them.

Best Advice: Contacting a debt management program to help with my debt.
The Rationale: Debt management programs lower the interest rate on your credit cards and may help lower your monthly payments.

Me: THANK YOU! That totally has helped me to get out of credit card debt in 5 years! Yay!

And that's all she wrote.
